What is Video Chat Magic?

Welcome to Video Chat Magic, an evolving collection of magic tricks, tools and essays exploring magic and mentalism particularly suited to being performed over platforms such as Zoom, Skype and FaceTime. We look beyond what’s possible on Instagram or YouTube, and delve into the advantages, challenges and potential of performances that are live, interactive and even participatory.
And, as well as getting access to some great material, you will be doing good in the world. Covid-19 was the catalyst for this project so every penny raised by Video Chat Magic will be donated to charity.

Who is Involved?

Video Chat Magic is a project by Will Houstoun, a Magic Consultant and Editor and Steve Thompson, a Philanthropy Consultant and Magical Creator. As well as Steve and Will, a number of other magicians have kindly contributed material, with more on the way. They are:

  • Marc Kerstein

  • Richard Wiseman

  • Jim Steinmeyer

  • Pete McCabe

  • Max Maven

You can learn more about who is involved here.

You Mentioned a Charity…

Video Chat Magic was conceived in early 2020 in the context of the unprecedented global adoption of video chat communications resulting from the emergence of Covid-19.

With this backdrop we wanted to try to do some good in the world. So every penny that you spend to access the collection will be donated to charities making a real difference in the world.

You can find out more about which charities we have chosen and why, here.

How Much Does it Cost?

For a donation of $59.99 you will get access to all the content on Video Chat Magic. We also intend to publish an average of two items each week, until the end of October, which will wing their way to your inbox as well as being available online. When you sign up you will also get access to an archive of our previous articles.

How Long will the Project Run?

The project will run until the end of October, at which point we will stop new subscribers from joining, but leave all the content online for existing supporters. Of course, if you no longer want to be involved you can cancel your subscription at any time.

And don’t forget that nobody connected with the project will be making any money from it. All the money we receive from subscriptions will go straight to charities that are making the world a better place.
